  • 6 apples peeled, cored and chopped (see note)
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup or more to taste
  • 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water

  • 4-6 cups Plain or vanilla yogurt
  • Maple syrup optional
  • Granola optional

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the lid and simmer for an additional 10 minutes or so, until the apples are tender and can be easily mashed. Add a little more water if needed. Mash the apples into a chunky sauce (or puree for a smoother sauce). Feel free to add more syrup or cinnamon to taste. Chill.

  • Layer yogurt, applesauce, and granola in a bowl or glass. Drizzle with maple syrup if desired.

I used three varieties of apples: Granny Smith, Gala and Fuji. You can use whatever you prefer.
