Tips and suggestions for creating an easy and beautiful Fruit and Cheese Board.
This content was created in partnership with CLEVER and Gloria Ferrer wines.
I’m so excited about today’s “recipe” because I get to share two of my favorite things in the world: cheese and wine! This isn’t technically a recipe but rather tips and suggestions for putting together your perfect cheese board.
Cheese boards are versatile, effortless and always impressive. When I’m entertaining or looking for an easy dinner during summer I love to throw together a cheese board. Fruit and cheese are always a crowd pleaser. And what goes perfectly with an assortment of fruits and cheeses? Wine!
To accompany this cheese board I serve chilled Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Blanc and Brut Rosé sparkling wines. I especially love the Rosé, with its hints of strawberries, cherries and Meyer lemon. And check out that color – it is gorgeous.
Gloria Ferrer wines have earned over 500 gold medals and 50 90+ scores in the last 5 years. The Gloria Ferrer winery opened in 1986 in the breezy, now-famous Carneros region in southernmost Sonoma County. Gloria Ferrer is not only the first sparkling wine house in Sonoma Carneros, but also the first to bring back clones from France to plant their vineyard.
CHEESE BOARD TIPS AND PAIRINGS
– Cheese: Select several different cheeses, ideally a mixture of textures, shapes and strengths. For this board I used brie, goat cheese, gouda and wine-soaked aged cheddar.
– Fruit: Think about what fruits (fresh or dried) and fruit spreads complement each cheese (see recipe below for some of my favorite pairings). In the summer months I often use fresh cherries, berries and stone fruits, and during fall and winter I use pears, apples, pomegranate and dried fruits. I find that apricots, grapes and apples go well with a large variety of cheeses.
– Salty: Add something salty like nuts, olives, mustard or cured meats.
– Sweet: I think the fruit adds plenty of sweetness, but feel free to add honey, glazed nuts or chocolate to bump up the sweet factor.
– Bread or crackers: Serve an assortment of crackers, bread or crunchy breadsticks.
– Fill it in: Once you’ve placed everything on your board, fill in the spaces. Some of my favorite fillers are rosemary, parsley, dried fruit or nuts.
That’s it! Your cheese board is ready! Pour your Gloria Ferrer sparkling wine and watch your friends and family devour your beautiful cheese board. This is what summer dreams are made of!
