This Homemade Strawberry Milk is loaded with the flavor of fresh strawberries. This easy 3-ingredient strawberry syrup is made with real ingredients, no dyes or artificial flavorings. Use fresh or frozen strawberries and any dairy or plant-based milk that you choose. This is an easy and fun recipe that tastes so much better than store bought strawberry milk.
Are you ready to feel like a kid again? We’re making Strawberry Milk! After making a Strawberry Milkshake recently I was reminded of this Strawberry Milk recipe. I’ve been serving this to my kids as an after school treat and they have been loving it!

What is strawberry milk made of?
This recipe is made of two components: homemade strawberry syrup and milk.
- Strawberry syrup: On the stovetop simmer a mixture of strawberries, sugar, and water. Once thickened, strain out the solids and you’re left with a sweet, bright red strawberry syrup.
- Milk: You can use any type of milk, dairy or nondairy. I typically use 2% milk or unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Note: If you’re using a sweetened plant-based milk you might want to add a little less syrup. Taste it and adjust as necessary.
Stir the chilled syrup into a glass of milk and drink up!
Other uses for strawberry syrup
This recipe makes 1-½ cups of strawberry syrup. This is enough for about 6 glasses of strawberry milk. I often use some syrup for making strawberry milk and then use the leftover syrup for topping pancakes, waffles, oatmeal, or yogurt.
Smaller quantity
If you’d like a smaller serving of strawberry milk, the quantities below make enough syrup for 2-3 glasses of strawberry milk:
- 1 ½ cups sliced strawberries
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup water
Storage
Store strawberry syrup in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Stir it into milk right before serving.

Recipe
Strawberry Milk
Ingredients
- 3 cups sliced strawberries (fresh or frozen), I used one 16-oz bag frozen sliced strawberries
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ⅔ cup water
- milk , preferably whole or 2%; non-dairy milk can be substituted
- whipped cream , for topping (optional)
Instructions
- Place the strawberries, sugar, and water in a saucepan set over medium heat. Simmer for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
- Set a fine mesh strainer over a bowl and pour the strawberry mixture through the strainer. Use the back of a spoon to press the strawberries against the strainer, extracting as much juice/syrup as possible. If there is any foam on top of the syrup you can scoop it off now. Chill the syrup.
- To serve: pour ¾ cup of milk into a glass and add syrup to taste (I add about 3-4 tablespoons). Stir and serve.
Notes
- 1-½ cups sliced strawberries
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- ⅓ cup water

This is the second year running I’ve made your recipe. Just wanted to say thank you, it’s amazing. Keeps for ages in the fridge, you can use it as a cordial with sparkling water too. I keep the thicker bits that get strained off and mix them into muffin batter. Best of all it’s plastic free if you grow your own strawberries.

How long will this syrup last if refrigerated? I want to make this but only if it will last a few days in the fridge.
Celebrating Sweets
It will definitely last a few days in the fridge. I would recommend using it within 1 week. Enjoy!

I have been making strawberry milk like this for a while now and we love it. My recipe I use a few more strawberries but it is still the same result. I found this recipe today because I’m trying to find a recipe that uses flavor drops like Capella’s or the flavor apprentice. I’m trying to find a way to make strawberry milk that I can make fast without using the powdered or syrupy stuff. Just a few concentrated drops and it’s ready. Anyway your recipe is REALLY good.

I’m glad that you liked it! Thanks for taking the time comment. 🙂

Do you recommend storing the syrup separately and mixing in when ready to drink or can I mix it in with milk and keep it in the fridge to make it easy?
Celebrating Sweets
You can mix it up in advance. Enjoy!

This is really good and I am going to be making it for my sisters princess birthday party tomorrow, she wanted milkshakes but I was hoping I could find a healthier drink so I made this and strawberry milkshakes but blended the milk and some ice for a colder and thicker mixture I had her try both of them not telling which was which and to my surprise she liked the strawberry milk better than the milk shake all I will do is add some homemade whipped cream died pink with radish juice and some sprinkles and wallaah instant healthier “milkshakes” lol thank you for the recipe

I remembered the recipe wrong and put too much water and not enough sugar so it’s more like strawberry water. Anyway to salvage it for strawberry milk?
Celebrating Sweets
Perhaps adding more strawberries and sugar?
