Ingredients needed
- Softened Butter – Use your favorite brand of butter. I prefer unsalted because I like to control the amount of salt that will be added. Let it sit at room temp for an hour or so, until it’s soft enough to easily mix.
- Honey – ¼ cup honey sweetens and flavors the butter.
- Ground Cinnamon – Just ¼ teaspoon adds a touch of warm spice to the honey butter. Adjust the cinnamon to suit your taste. Or leave it out, if you’d prefer a stronger honey flavor.
- Vanilla Extract – A splash of vanilla extract adds an underlying vanilla flavor. This is what sets this recipe apart from other honey butter recipes – it is so GOOD!
- Salt – This ingredient is super important! We need to balance all those sweet ingredients with a little salt.
- Powdered Sugar – This helps to give the butter a thicker yet soft and spreadable consistency.
One easy step
Yep, only 1 step. It doesn’t get much easier than this! Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat all of the ingredients together until smooth and combined. Serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
Uses for honey butter
Here are some delicious ways to use your honey butter:
- Rolls, Buttermilk Biscuits, Rosemary Biscuits, Bread
- Toast, English Muffins, Bagels, Banana Bread
- Pancakes, French Toast, Waffles
- Oatmeal
- Cornbread
- Baked Sweet Potatoes
- Roasted Butternut Squash
- Fried Chicken (melt and drizzle over the cooked chicken)
Does honey butter need to be refrigerated?
I recommend refrigerating this butter because it lasts longer that way. If you’re planning on eating it within a couple of days you can leave it out tightly covered in a butter crock, butter dish, or food storage container, otherwise store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
Note: You absolutely should serve this butter at room temperature. If it’s not already softened, I recommend removing it from the fridge 1-2 hours before you need it to allow it to soften.

My mom made a lot of honey butter, but never wrote down the proportions. I tried your recipe and it brought back so many memories! It tastes terrific and the cinnamon was a new twist, but so yummy! Thank you.
