Quick and easy chocolate and hazelnut flavored Nutella Hot Chocolate. Perfect for chilly days!
Hello! Meet my new obsession. The easiest, tastiest, TWO ingredient hot chocolate. I’m wondering how I ever made it through winter without Nutella Hot Chocolate. Where has this been my whole life?
I’m making up for lost time… Bring on another mug.
We have a tradition of drinking hot chocolate on the day we decorate our house for Christmas. As night falls, we turn on all the Christmas lights and enjoy our hot chocolate by the glow of our tree. Sometimes we have plain Hot Chocolate, Mexican Hot Chocolate, Crock Pot Hot Chocolate, or White Hot Chocolate. Sometimes the adults spike our Hot Chocolate (or make Hot Buttered Rum). But this year I took the simplest route possible and I stirred Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread into warm milk, which gave us Nutella Hot Chocolate!
Nutella Hot Chocolate
You can serve this hot chocolate with only the milk and Nutella or you can add additional flavors. I chose to whisk in a little unsweetened cocoa powder for a stronger chocolate flavor. You could also add a shot of espresso (totally doing that next time), a sprinkle of cinnamon, or a splash of vanilla extract. You can go so many different directions with this; they will all be delicious!
Also, I’m thinking this recipe could be multiplied and placed in a slow cooker. If you’re hosting holiday guests they could help themselves to creamy Nutella Hot Chocolate right from the slow cooker.
Oh, and then we could set up a little bar next to the hot chocolate and everyone could spike their drinks. Hazelnut liqueur? Chocolate liqueur? Bailey’s? Gah! OK, I’m totally doing this.
I also want to note that although I titled this recipe “Nutella” hot chocolate, you don’t have to use Nutella brand. There are several other brands of chocolate hazelnut spread and they should all work the same.
Now comes decision time… do you top your hot chocolate with marshmallows or whipped cream? I vote for whipped cream! My kiddos couldn’t decide, so I let them top ’em with both. ‘Tis the season!

Not for me. Maybe it was just the 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder that I didn’t like (I’ll try just 1 tablespoon if I try this recipe again sometime), or it’s just because I’m not crazy about Nutella in the first place, but it didn’t taste fantastic to me. Oh, well. Really rich drink, I still took a big mug of it haha!

Yes, I know it’s summer, but I’ve been craving hot chocolate ever since I saw marshmallows in the store and I had to make this ASAP. SO. STINKING. GOOD!!

Pretty easy. I added vegan marshmallows and it was delicious. Also the Nutella swirl in the measuring cup was very nice to look at.

Very good, although very rich! Not sweet at ALL! always have to add 1/2 a cup of sugar!
