This sweet and creamy Spiked Hot Chocolate is the adult version of a childhood favorite!
Hello, hello. It’s time to cuddle up with a mug of Spiked Hot Chocolate. It’s warm, sweet, and creamy, and when topped with a dollop of whipped cream it is basically heaven in a mug. Treat yourself!
How to make spiked hot chocolate
- Step 1: Make hot chocolate (it’s so easy). Heat milk, sugar, and cocoa powder on the stovetop. Stir in chocolate chips (give them a few minutes to melt), add a splash of vanilla.
- Step 2: Spike it! Once you have your hot chocolate prepared, add the alcohol. I like Baileys Irish Cream and I use about ¼ cup per 1 cup serving of hot chocolate. Prefer a different type of alcohol? See below for more options.
What type alcohol to use
You can really use any alcohol that you like, obviously something that pairs well with chocolate. Here are some of our favorites:
- Baileys Irish Cream (regular or flavored)
- Kahlua
- Vanilla vodka
- Chocolate liqueur
- White chocolate liqueur
- Coffee liqueur
Toppings for spiked hot chocolate
- Marshmallows
- Whipped cream
- Finely chopped chocolate
- Crushed peppermint candies/candy canes
- Chocolate sauce
- Caramel sauce
- Cinnamon stick
Larger quantities
The recipe below makes 2 servings. You can easily double or triple it as needed. If you need Spiked Hot Chocolate for a crowd, I recommend making my Crock Pot Hot Chocolate, and adding between 1-2 cups of alcohol. Start with the smaller amount, taste it, and increase as necessary.
