These creamy and refreshing Coconut Margaritas come together in minutes with only five ingredients. The flavors of sweet coconut, fresh lime, and tequila will make you feel like you’ve been transported to a beach. You’ll love every sip of this delicious cocktail.
We very much need Coconut Margaritas in our life right now. The weather is warming up and normal life feels like it *just might* be on the horizon. My go-to margaritas are usually Strawberry Margaritas or Frozen Margaritas, but this coconut version has quickly climbed to the top of the list. One sip and you’ll see why.

Recipe overview
This recipe is so incredibly easy. Just throw everything into a cocktail shaker, give it a few shakes, and pour it into ice-filled glasses. Here’s what you’ll need for this recipe:
- Tequila
- Coconut milk
- Cream of coconut
- Lime juice
- Orange liqueur
Recipe tips
- Use cold* ingredients so that when you pour your cocktail over ice the ice won’t melt as quickly. *Exception: I use cream of coconut that is at room temperature. I find it easier to measure when it is not chilled.
- Using a combination of cream of coconut and coconut milk adds the perfect amount of sweetness and coconut flavor. If you like your cocktails on the sweeter side use sweetened coconut milk.
- Adjust the serving size as needed. This recipe is written to make 2 cocktails, but you can easily scale it up to make a whole pitcher of margaritas (more on this below).
- Taste and adjust ingredients as necessary. This is the beauty of making your own cocktails – you can get it just how you like it.
- Garnish your margaritas with toasted coconut and/or lime slices.
Larger serving (pitcher of coconut margaritas)
If you need margaritas for a group and don’t feel like shaking them up a couple servings at a time, try this:
Serves 8
Combine the following in a pitcher:
- 1 to 1 ½ cups silver tequila (depending on how strong you want it)
- 1 cup cream of coconut
- ¾ cup coconut milk
- ½ cup freshly squeezed lime juice
- ¼ cup triple sec/orange liqueur
Depending on how thick your cream of coconut is you might need to use a whisk to combine the mixture. Pour into ice-filled glasses and serve.
Frozen coconut margaritas
Prefer your margaritas frozen rather than on the rocks? Place the ingredients in a blender with 1-2 cups of ice and blend.
Tips for frozen margaritas:
- Freeze coconut milk in an ice cube tray and use that instead of regular ice cubes for a more flavorful margarita. If desired, you can omit the coconut milk from the recipe since you’re using coconut milk ice cubes.
- Use a bit more tequila and orange liqueur to keep the margarita flavor from getting diluted.
- Add more ice to thicken and more liquid to thin out the margaritas. Play around with the portions to get your desired flavor and texture.
